Sausalito Barhopping

Looking for Sausalito's sauciest bars? Here's where to go according to locals in the know.

Our Top Picks

Recommendation  #1
No Name Bar

It’s the bar with no name where everybody knows your name.

Locals and visitors alike crowd into this treasured Sausalito watering hole to hear great music, dance, hang out on the back patio, and enjoy very reasonably priced libations. To drink at the No Name is to harken back to times when Beat Generation legends such as Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac would pontificate over beers, fueled by the sounds of saxophones and snare drums. Come thirsty to this historic Sausalito bar!

Recommendation #2
Sausalito Seahorse

In northern Sausalito, far away from the bikes, tourists, and traffic on Bridgeway, is the Sausalito Seahorse. The perfect blend of Tuscan dishes and seafood, Seahorse is a lively bar & eatery that is known for live music a few times a week (everything from classic rock to salsa). They have an extensive dinner menu but if you’re in Sausalito for the day, swing by for a panini on homemade focaccia or a schiacciata (Tuscan style pizza sandwiches), all made in-house and available 11:30am - 4pm. Their weekly happy hour (Monday - Friday/4pm - 6pm) features wine & beer specials and ½ price apps. The Seahorse also boasts a dog-friendly garden patio, just in case you wanna grab a pint with your pooch.

Recommendation #3
Saylor's Restaurant and Bar

The official slogan for Saylor's Restaurant and Bar is “A Taste of Cabo in Marin," and Saylors makes sure to impart that laid back Cabo vibe to everyone who visits.

Smiles abound whether you're cozying up to the bar, spreading out in a big dining room booth, or chilling on their Agave Terrace. We recommend kicking things off with one of bartender Guillermo’s famous (translation: strong) margaritas and some chips & guac, as you’ll want to take your time reviewing their massive menu of traditional Mexican and seafood-centric dishes. Choose from classics like fajitas, tostadas, and burritos, as well as especiales del dia, like chicken pot pie on Mondays or Chili Colorado on Thursdays. And their Monday - Friday happy hour boasts $7 margaritas and $6 Cabo Bites (tacos, chicken wings, Mexican Pizza, etc.). Muy delicioso!

Recommendation #4
The Trident

Steeped in rock n’ roll royalty lore, this waterfront restaurant and bar — once owned by The Kingston Trio — is the birthplace of the Tequila Sunrise - a cocktail created by bartender Bobby Lozoff for Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones one crazy night. The drink continued to gain in popularity with the Stones’ “Cocaine and Tequila Sunrise” world tour.

With panoramic views of the Bay like these, you better believe the seafood is fresh and delicious. Diners gravitate to their famous Cioppino, but the kitchen also serves an array of sandwiches, shrimp Louie, and surf & turf dishes. In keeping with its musical roots, the restaurant hosts Trident Fridays with live music + happy hour specials (5pm - 8pm). We can't think of a better way to end the day than sipping on a tasty Trident Sunrise while enjoying a Sausalito sunset.

Recommendation #5
Smitty's Bar

A true locals’ dive. This is where you’ll down a “Schooner” — the bar’s 32 oz mug-o-suds — play shuffleboard, pool, and darts, watch sports, or just get away from the sunshine.

This is a no nonsense bar, so try not to order anything muddled or blended here. Better to stick with a beer and a shot. Smitty’s is most definitely keeping Sausalito salty, but with smiles and good times for all.
