Recommendation  #1
Lark Theater

Get ready to laugh, cry and fall in love with lyrics that are heartbreakingly true and music that captures the soaring emotions of a new generation with the Tony Award-winning musical SIDE BY SIDE BY SONDHEIM.

The show is a collection of Stephen Sondheim songs, some he has written by himself and some for which he has written the lyrics and collaborated with other composers. A Narrator guides the evening, interjecting interesting stories between the numbers. Some of the stories focus on Sondheim’s life and career, while others relate to the shows from which the songs come or set up the moment before the song.

The show premieres this Thursday and includes a lobby reception after the show. and then runs every Saturday thru May 25th (7:30pm) and every Sunday thru May 19th (2pm).

Recommendation #2
HopMonk Tavern

David Jacobs-Strain, the fierce slide guitar player and a song poet from Oregon, is the headliner this Friday at HopMonk Tavern.

Known for both his virtuosity and spirit of emotional abandon, David displays a range that ties him to his own generation and to guitar-slinger troubadours like Robert Johnson and Jackson Browne.

Joining David is Bob Beach on Harmonica. Their live show moves from humorous, subversive blues, to delicate balladry, and then swings back to swampy rock and roll. David & Bob have performed many times at music festivals around the country. They are currently touring in support of their latest recording - “Belfry Session.”
