Marché is situated in the quaint town of Ross and is named for the farmer's markets of southern France where chefs, locals and tourists visit seeking inspiration and ingredients for the meals they will prepare each day.
“Market” is but one translation of the restaurant’s French name. With manger Olivier Criado on board since April and consulting chef Dan Baker on board since 2024, perhaps the more apropos translation might be “to walk.” The menu spans Italian, French and the greater Mediterranean diaspora, an exploration of European flavors translated through the lens of California Cuisine.
To kick things off, a “snack” of Boquerones with grilled bread or burrata served with nectarines, pistachios and hot honey. A BLT Salad tastes even better when summer’s tomatoes are at their peak. That can be followed by a classic Italian “primi” of house made gnocchi with foraged mushrooms and white corn. In-season proteins may change (salmon swapping for halibut, say) but the crisp Duck Confit summery with toasted farro, toasted hazelnuts, and fresh figs, is a signature dish.
Fans flock to the restaurant for the house’s weekly specials: Tuesday is Fried Chicken with fresh cornbread and cole slaw, Wednesday means Baby Back Ribs with waffle fries and street corn, while Thursday brings Burger Night (grass-fed, of course).
We’ll keep the “walk” metaphor going by noting the huge half-bottle wine list – more than 25 options enable guests to experience French, Italian, Spanish and other regional wines.
But perhaps the best part of Marché is its charming patio. Tucked under western magnolias and just enough sparkling lights, the setting is dreamy, enhanced by what Criado likes to call one of his “small touches” – cushy pillows on the chairs. Happy Hour (Wednesday through Friday, 4-5:30 p.m.) means $10 spritzes, $15 meatball sandwiches, and glasses of wine and beer for $9. Live music runs on Wednesdays until 8 p.m. In fact, late afternoon is probably your best bet to snag one of the much-coveted outdoor seats.
Fried Chicken Tuesdays: Crispy 38 North Leg, Thigh & Tender. Served with cilantro-cabbage slaw, Honey Cornbread for $22.95.
BBQ Baby Back Rib Wednesdays: Slow-cooked and grilled, served with house BBQ sauce, sweet potato waffle fries and corn on the cob for $28.95
Grass-fed Burger Thursdays: 7-oz grass-fed patty, cheddar, caramelized onions, bacon. Served on brioche with pickles and house fries for $23.95.
