When a nearly three-hour Nathan Fielder documentary about Elizabeth Holmes arrives in theaters, simply selling popcorn somehow doesn’t feel like enough. For the opening weekend of A24’s highly anticipated You Can See Everything, Cinelounge Marin is turning the film’s arrival into an interactive experience inspired by its strange, slippery world of truth, performance and perception.
On Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17, from 7-8 p.m., the cinema’s Lagoon Room will be transformed into The Transparency Room, complete with an actual lie detector, staring contests, prizes and margaritas. The Transparency Room will be open to the public during both one-hour sessions. Moviegoers attending Cinelounge’s final screenings of You Can See Everything on Friday and Saturday can make it their pre-show experience, while anyone curious enough to submit themselves to an evening of questionable truth-telling and prolonged eye contact can simply come by between 7 and 8 p.m.
Cinelounge will also feature “You Can Eat Everything,” a special four-course tasting meal featuring dishes created specifically for the film and available in conjunction with select screenings.
Together, The Transparency Room and You Can Eat Everything turn the opening of one of the year’s most talked-about documentaries into something considerably stranger than the average trip to the movies.
