Recommendation  #1
Sweetwater Music Hall

Minus Linus and The Dirty Blanket, a musical ensemble comprised of Bay Area stalwarts and legends, is performing this Thursday at Sweetwater.

Four musicians from very different paths, come together to play a wide range of fun and semi-improvisational music. Bryan Kehoe (guitar, vocals, MC) built his chops in the local Kook/Rock band M.I.R.V. Later venturing off to join high school pal Les Claypool in The Frog Brigade and Duo de Twang. Bobby Vega (bass) is a “Master” musician who has played with Bo Diddley, Sly Stone, Booker T., and Bob Weir. Tim “Herb” Alexander (drums) has been touring the world and recording with his Platinum Award winning band Primus. Rounding out the line up is James Deprato (guitar), currently a member of Chuck Prophet & The Mission Express.

Together they play a genre bending style of music, inspired by a wide spectrum of musical influences. Mixing hard fat funky beats, spacey interludes, and classic rock idioms, to form their own brand of music they call Quantum Blues/ Cosmic Groove.

Recommendation #3
Rancho Nicasio

Lydia Pense & Cold Blood are taking the stage this Saturday at Rancho Nicasio.

Known as the Queen of Bay Area Rhythm & Blues, Lydia Pense has been delighting audiences with her unique brand of Funk and Blues for over 50 years. With her latest release, Lydia & Cold Blood have leaned heavily on The Blues. But don't worry, there is still plenty of their signature "East Bay Grease" on this collection. Pense can still shout like a 60's soul diva and purr a slow blues tune with spine-tingling subtlety. Cold Blood, as a whole, features a stellar group of musicians who have been playing together for nearly 20 years. Together she and the band continue to twist together R&B, (both Old School and New School); into something that doesn't have a label.
