When Leigh flies out to the East Coast to help her aging mother Esther move out of her overstuffed apartment, a a fight quickly develops. Esther, a survivor of the Deportation of the Jews from Nazi France, doesn't want to budge. Granddaughter Rachel, an ardent packrat like her grandmother, joins the fray. At first she backs Esther's desire to keep her stuff, calling her mother a "purger." When a cross-generational struggle over possessions and end-of-life-choices morphs into a much deeper struggle, Rachel reconsiders, revealing the toll the past takes on all of us, whether we choose to hold onto it or not.
